Obituary for GERTRUED E. BURROW
Gertrude E. Burrow, 87, of Altamont left her earthly home at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2012, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran General Fund, the church workers scholarship fund, the Lutheran Hour, Lutheran Care Center or the donor's choice. Gertrude Emma Maria Wolf-Burrow was born Aug. 15, 1924, on the family farm in the Bethlehem Community near Altamont, into the family of Bernhard and Maria Ziegler-Wolf. Gertrude was the fifth child of eight siblings born into this Christian family. Gertrude received her education in Altamont. She married Arlon Walter Burrow on Feb. 15, 1953, in Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. John W. Meyer. Arlon preceded her in death on April 30, 1976. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and organizations within the church, such as the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Altar Guild, the Lutheran Brail Workers, the Immanuel PTL and women's home Bible Study. Besides raising a family in Christian values and assisting her husband with farming, she most enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She is survived by her two sons, Steven Lynn Burrow of Peoria and Mark Alan (wife, Judy) Burrow of Altamont; two daughters, Rita Lorraine (husband, Alan) Bishop of Decatur and Joann Marie (husband, the Rev. Mark) Shockey of Eden Prairie, Minn.; grandchildren, Nicholas, David and Matthew Burrow, Paul (wife, Danielle) Bishop, Diana (husband, Jeremy) Ashley, Rachel Bishop, and Hannah, Emma and Jenna Shockey; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Stella Bishop and Elliot, Benjamin, Jada and Adrienne Ashley; two sisters, Olga Potts of Inverness and Edna Sturtevant of Effingham; two sisters-in-law, Norma Wolf and Leona Wolf of Altamont; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernhard and Maria Ziegler-Wolf; husband, Arlon Walter Burrow; brothers, Clarence Wolf, Edgar Wolf, Carl (wife, Charlotte) Wolf and Eugene Wolf; and brothers-in-law, Gilbert Potts and Walter Sturtevant.
