Obituary for Norman C. Kaiser
Norman C. Kaiser, 77, of St. Elmo was pronounced dead at his home early morning Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at 9:03 a.m. by Bruce Bowen, the Fayette County coroner. Mr. Kaiser had succumbed to his long battle with diabetes. There will be no funeral services or visitation. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. For those who prefer, memorials may given to Altamont Animal Rescue, c/o Dr. Nanci Huels, Altamont Veterinary Clinic, 2474 East U.S. Hwy. 40, Altamont, IL 62411. Norman Charles Kaiser was born Oct. 5, 1934, in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, St. Clair County, Belleville, one of three children into the family of Claude Joseph Kaiser and Evelyn Grace Rothkegel-Kaiser. Norman was educated locally in grammar school and graduated from Belleville High School. He attended Belleville Junior College and graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with one year toward his master's degree in 1980. Norman proudly enlisted into the Army of the United States, serving in the Korean Conflict at the DMZ in the Army Medical Corp. from 1954-56. After fulfilling his Army reserve duty, he re-enlisted in 1970 during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge in 1978. He had obtained the rank of staff sergeant E-6 and attended the NCO academy in Bremerhaven, Germany. Norman had taught high school in Amboy. He also worked as a substitute teacher, and a security guard in Florida, North Carolina and other locations. Norman was a member of Effingham American Legion Post 120, the United States Trotting Association, and was a member of the Elks Lodge Demit. Norman retired in 1991. In his passing, he leaves behind his daughter, Barbara Ann Kaiser-Engel of Shelbyville; brother, Robert Dean Kaiser of Belleville; and sister, Janet Lynn (husband, Britt) Lentz of Georgetown, Del. He was preceded in death by his parents.
