Obituary for Verna V. Durbin
Verna V. Durbin was born February 22, 1924 at home in Avena Township, Fayette County, near St. Elmo, Illinois into the family of George and Julia Rehwald-Heiden. Verna was the fourth child born into the Christian family. Hard work and a strong faith were part of her family life. She was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was baptized into her Christian faith on March 9, 1924 and confirmed her faith on March 21, 1937. She married Arthur Ray Beccue on June 4, 1942 and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1965. She then married Berriman E. Carroll on April 26, 1969 and he preceded her in death on February 13, 1997. She then married Dale Durbin on September 26, 1998 and he preceded her in death on June 25, 2003. Verna was a member of the Altamont VFW Post 7676 Ladies Auxiliary and was last employed before her retirement at the Aloha Inn in Altamont. Verna and Berriman were employed as the managers. Throughout her years she worked at numerous jobs but most importantly raised a family. She is survived by Her: 1-Son: James A. (wife, Sandy) Beccue. 3-Daughters: Edith S. (husband, Leavitt) Higgs. Peggy L. (husband, Larry) Quandt. Sheryl A. (husband, Robert) Brasel. 1-Step Daughter: Kathy (husband, Don) Carroll-Colyer. 1-Sister-in-law: Marcel la Heiden.14 Grandchildren 30 Great Grandchildren and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents: George Heiden, Julia Rehwald-Heiden.3 Husbands.1-Step Son: Jim Carroll. 2-Brothers: Wayne and his wife Leah Heiden.
