Shirley Ann Dunnett 93 years old of Altamont, Illinois went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully, on early Tuesday morning October 28, 2025, at the Lutheran Care Center after a short stay following an accident that impaired her mobility.
A visitation will begin on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, for family and friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the Lutheran Care Center Chapel, Altamont, Illinois.Funeral Services will be performed at 1:00 pm following the visitation with the Rev. Scott Niermann officiating. Christian burial rites will be performed at Union Cemetery on the family lot in Altamont following the funeral services.
Shirley was born in Melrose Park, Illinois, into a Christian family, the daughter of Herman and Sophia (Krueger) Voelker on May 24, 1932, baptized on June 12, 1932, confirmed her faith on April 14,1946 and married Edward K. Dunnett on July 25, 1953, all at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose Park, Illinois with the Rev. Paul Kluende officiating all services.
She finished her education in the Melrose Park education system. The family then moved to Fort Worth, Texas where Shirley was employed and retired as a secretary for the Texas University system. To this union were born two Sons: David Edward and Daniel Dean Dunnett. After the death of her husband Edward in 1995, Shirley returned to Altamont in 2001 to be near relatives.
Shirley was an organist for church services for over 60 plus years and was the first organist to the Lutheran Care Center Chapel. She was most proud of teaching piano and organ lessons for over 25 years.Shirley was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church beginning in 2001, Men’s choir accompanist, Women’s Bible Study, Christ Care Group and a volunteer at the Lutheran Care Center. One of her favorite skills was in family genealogy. Shirley loved the Bible and knew it well.
Shirley is survived by Son: Daniel Dean Dunnett and her extended family. Shirley was preceded in death by her: Husband, Parents, Stepmother Hilda (Krueger) Voelker, Brother Dean Voelker and Son David Edward Dunnett
Memorials can be directed toward the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethlehem Lutheran Church and or the Lutheran Care Center.
