Obituary for Roy H. Myers
Roy Herbert Myers was born Nov. 12, 1928, at home in the Dexter Community into the family of James Perry Sr. and Bessie Goen-Myers. Roy was the fifth child of 10 siblings born into the Christian family. Hard work and a strong faith were part of his family life. Roy received his eighth-grade education at the rural Devore School in Effingham County and was a dairy farmer most of his life. He married Virginia Ruth Vogel on Oct. 31, 1953, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2007. He was a life member of Dexter Methodist Church, Effingham County Farm Bureau, Prairie Farms Dairy Coop and Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He was also a member of Altamont VFW Post 7676. Mr. Myers had enlisted in the United States Navy on June 22, 1948, and served his country honorably, being discharge on June 20, 1952. Throughout his years, he enjoyed raising and working horses. Most importantly, Roy and Virginia raised a large family and they all learned to work the family farm. He is survived by his eight sons, Michael (wife, Carolyn) Myers of Altamont, Joseph (wife, Kathy) Myers of Tuscola, Roger (wife, Julie) Myers of Effingham, Terry (wife, Tammy) Myers of Hedgesville, W.Va., Wesley (wife, Amber) Myers of Altamont, Tracy Myers of Burnsville, Miss., Jeremy (wife, Rena) Myers of Altamont and Donald Myers of Everett, Wash.; three daughters, Gail (husband, Larry) Kreke of Altamont, Becky (husband, Donald) Hoene of Sigel and Deborah (husband, Leland) Lustig of Effingham; one brother, Theodore "Ted" Myers of Altamont; two sisters, Sarah Gray of Rapatee and Lila (husband, Kenneth) McCain of Altamont; special family friend, Ms. Valerie Penczar of Effingham; 31 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Perry Myers Sr. and Bessie Marie Goen-Myers; wife, Virginia Ruth Vogel-Myers; three brothers, Charles and his wife, Evelyn, Myers, George Lavon Myers in his youth, and James Perry Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, Myers; three sisters, Beulah and husband, Victor, Duckwitz, Virginia and husband, Herb, Trefzer, and Wanda and husband, Jim, Youngblood; one brother-in-law, Tommy Gray; and one sister-in-law, Donna Myers.

Service:

Friday morning February 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM.

Dexter United Methodist Church, Dexter, Illinois with the Rev. Ed Wonjar officiating.



Visitation:

Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, Illinois, and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church
