Obituary for PAUL JOHN BERG
Paul John Berg, 87, of rural Altamont, died at 8:04 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Kendred Hospital in Springfield . Paul Johann Berg was born December 21, 1924 in the Bethlehem Community, Effingham County near Altamont, Illinois. He was the son of John and Emma Bandelow-Berg. Paul was a baptized and confirmed member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. On June 24, 1951, Paul married Elda Beccue in Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together, Paul and Elda were blessed with six children: Dale, Dean, Paulette, Pat, Dona and Pam. When the children were growing up and before Paul spent a great deal of time being a grain and dairy farmer, besides working for over 15 years at Color Press in Effingham. He proudly served his county as a veteran of the United States Army serving in the South Pacific. Paul was an active member of the Altamont community. He served numerous offices at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, school and PTL as well as being in the Immanuel Choir. He was a member of the Effingham County Farm Bureau, the Altamont VFW Post #7676, the National and Tri-County Square dancers and the Thrashermen's Association. He was most proud of being the Parade Marshall along with Tannor his horse at the Effingham County Fair Harness Races and the St. Peter Prairie Days. For many years his team of Heidi and Tannor provided wagon rides at the Thrashermen's Celebration as well as bringing Santa to the Altamont Community during the Christmas season. He is survived by His: 2-Sons: Dale (wife, Connie) Berg. Dean (wife, Sherry) Berg. 4-Daughters: Miss Paulette Berg. Patricia (husband, Steve ) Robinson. Donna (husband, Dean) Stuckemeyer. Pamela Kepley. Special Friend: Shirley Dunnett. Sister-in-law: Maria Berg. 12 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by His: 2-Brothers:Wilbert and wife Gertrude Berg. Edwin and his wife Barbara Berg. 3 -Sisters: Lillian and her husband Earl SticeElla and her husband Richard Rothe. Sophia and her husband C.C. Cummins.
