Obituary for Norman E. Miller
Norman was born into the Christian family of Elmer and Sophia Yagow Miller on October 28, 1932 one of three siblings at the family farm Mound Township, Effingham County, Illinois. Norman was baptized and confirmed his faith at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. He attended the parochial school through the seventh grade and 8th grade at the Altamont Grade School, and then attended the Altamont High School and graduated with the class of 1951 where he participated in basketball and baseball. His early business involvement was led by newspaper delivery and mowing lawns. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and advanced to Officer’s Training School, was Honorably Discharged and served in the Naval Reserves for 4 years. Norman subsequently began working for the Kuffle Motor Co. and Dunlap & Ballard John Deere dealership for 16 years. He then took employment with the State of Illinois serving as administrator for I.D.O.T in Effingham. He then took a position with Cargill Company-Seed Division and received numerous awards for outstanding sales. He also served as precinct committeeman for Mound Township for 32 years as well as serving the Effingham County Housing Authority for 28 years and as chairman for 12 years. In 1960 he and his wife started Advertising Specialties, now known as Promark Advertising, and retired from the sales field in 2004. He was very active as a collector of John Deere tractors and toys, postcards and antiques. His other interests and memberships included, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Effingham County Culture Center and Museum Association, founding member of the Old National Trail two-cylinder tractor club, founding member of the Altamont Schuetzenfest, the American Legion and a lifetime St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Norman married Margaret Ruth Holste on May 15, 1955 in the St. Paul “Blue Point” Lutheran Church, rural Altamont, Illinois by the Rev. H. T. Schmidt.

He is survived by his:

1-Daughters: Diane Sue (husband, Scott) Fish Murfreesboro, Tennessee
and their children: Alison and Amy Fish
1-Brother: Richard Lewis (wife, Edith) Miller Altamont, Illinois
7 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
