Obituary for LINZI ALYSE RECTOR
NEW YORK -- Linzi A. Rector, 27, of New York, formerly of Altamont, passed away at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, after a courageous fight with cancer. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Altamont Christian Church, Altamont, with the Rev. James Watts officiating. Burial rites will be conducted in Union Cemetery, Altamont, immediately following the funeral service. Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to The Whoo Hoo Sisterhood of Altamont and the Melanoma Research Foundation or the donor's choice. Kull Funeral Home, Altamont, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kullfuneralhome.com. Linzi Alyse Rector was born May 24, 1985, in Mount Vernon, to Tom and Cathy (Brannon) Rector and was the older sister to Kacie. Linzi grew up through Altamont Christian Church and Altamont Community School District, graduating with the ACHS class of 2003, where she was named salutatorian and Student of the Year. She was a very active student participating in the National Honor Society, Student Council, athletics and is in the ACHS Hall of Fame for her accomplishments in track and field. After high school, she was offered an academic and athletic scholarship to run track at University of Missouri-Rolla. While there, she became a loyal sister of the Chi Omega Fraternity. She then attended the University of Illinois, where she received her bachelor's degree in actuarial science in 2007. After college, she secured employment as an actuary with State Farm Insurance Co., Bloomington. Pursuing her dreams, Linzi moved to New York, where she worked as an actuary for New York Life Insurance Co. Linzi earned her designation as an Associate of the Society of Actuaries while in New York. Linzi remained active with the Chi Omega Alumnae Association in New York City, volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, enjoyed shopping, going to Broadway, spending time with her dog, Oscar, and traveling with her boyfriend, Dan. She is survived by her parents, Thomas and Cathy Brannon-Rector of Altamont; paternal grandmother, Carol Sparks-Rector of Mount Vernon; maternal grandmother, Erma "Susie" Henke-Brannon of Altamont; sister, Kacie (husband, Blaine) Trexler of Chattanooga, Tenn.; boyfriend, Daniel Dunkelberger of New York; and little buddy, Oscar Rector of Altamont. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Glen Rector; and maternal grandfather, Eugene Brannon.
