Obituary for KENNETH FISCHER
Kenneth Carl Fischer was born December 25, 1925 in Altamont one of seven siblings into the Christian family of Emil and Rose (Rethorn) Fisher. Kenneth was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed his faith, educated in the elementary parochial school, and graduated from Altamont Community High School. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and received the rank of Technician Fifth Grade, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He received his Honorable Discharge on May 11, 1946. Kenneth was employed as the office manager of the Illinois Department of Employment Security for over 35 years until his retirement. He also served his church as finance officer, elder, trustee and other positions. One of his favorite pastimes in later years was playing golf. Kenneth married Dorothy Ann Beccue in the Immanuel Lutheran Church on February 9, 1947 and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2009. He is survived by his sister: Dorothy Smith of Olney, Illinois. Sister-in-law: Charlotte Fischerof Rushville, Illinois. Several Nieces, Nephews and a host of local friends. He was preceded in death by his Parents:Emil Herman Fischer and Rose C. (Rethorn) Fischer. Wife:Dorothy Ann Fischer. 3-Brothers: Paul L. Fischer, William Fischer, Cecil and his wife Eileen Fischer. 2-Sisters: Marie and her husband Lester Ross, JoAnn and her husband Willard Olney Brother-in-law: Franklin Smith. Military Burial Rites will be conducted at Union Cemetery, Altamont immediately following the funeral services by Altamont Grobengieser-Fischer American Legion Post 512 and Effingham Post #120. Also Altamont VFW Post #7676 will participate. For those who prefer Memorials they may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery and or the Donor's choice.
