Obituary for ELWIN PHILLIP BERNAHL
Elwin P. Bernahl 93 years old of Altamont, died on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 9:00 PM at the Lutheran Care Center, Altamont, Illinois. Elwin Philip Bernahl was born April 25, 1919 in the Bethlehem Community, Effingham County near Altamont, Illinois. He was the son of Otto and Martha Muchow-Bernahl. Elwin was life member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed his faith. After returning from his service to his country Elwin married Ester Leppin on January 27, 1946, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Together, Elwin and Esther were blessed with three children: Linda, Jeanne and Robert. When the children were growing up Elwin spent a great deal of time being a grain farmer, besides tree trimming and painting before retiring in 1981. He proudly served his county as a veteran of the United States Army during World War II serving in Europe for 3 �_ years in the European-African Middle Eastern theater with receiving one silver star and 6 overseas bars. Elwin was an active member of the Altamont community. He served numerous offices at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, as elder and trustee. He was a member of the Effingham County Farm Bureau, the Altamont VFW Post #7676 . He is survived by His: Wife: Esther Leppin Bernahl. 1-Son:Robert (wife, Cynthia Hulsizer) Bernahl Daughters:Linda (husband, CharlieDahlheime Jeanne (husband, Dale) Wolff. 1-Brother:Raymond (wife, Dorothy) Bernahl1-Sister:Miss Doris Ella Bernahl. 5- Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by His: Parents : 1-Brother:Lambert Bernahl at 6 years of age. 1-Grandchild. Military Burial Rites will be conducted at the church cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday morning November 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altamont.

5:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, Illinois.And 10:00 am until 11:00 am or the time of the funeral services at the Bethehem Lutheran Church.
