Obituary for Doris Ella Bernahl
Doris Ella Bernahl was born on December 27, 1923 at the family farm in the Bethlehem Community, Effingham County near Altamont where she continued to live just one mile down the road from the church her entire life until her health lead her to the Lutheran Care Center. Doris was the daughter of Otto and Martha Muchow-Bernahl. Doris was a lifetime member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed in her faith. During her adulthood, she served as chapter secretary for the AAL, a position she continued to enjoy for many years. Many people outside the Bethlehem Community would have become acquainted with Doris through her years-long employment at the Kull Funeral Home and the Kull Furniture Galleries. Doris enjoyed a life-long hobby of playing cards and dominoes, mostly with her family. She also liked a good game of Bingo, and visiting with out-of-town relatives at the annual Bernahl reunions. Following retirement, Doris enjoyed traveling, which included bus tours around the country and in Canada, and a trip to Germany. She especially enjoyed family gatherings over the years at the homes of her nieces Jeanne and Linda and her nephew Robert.
