Obituary for Don Perry Klepzig
Don was born on May 27, 1937 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Effingham, Illinois into the Christian family of Henry and Dorothy Rentfrow-Klepzig. On November 27, 1975 he married Patricia Dorothy Czyzewski at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shumway by Rev. Ron Warren.
Don was raised in the Shumway Community, near Altamont in Effingham County. Don was a Husband, Dad, Stepdad, Brother, Uncle, Lutheran Minister and so much more. He took in 6 foster children at once when he already had 3 biological children. He was a cop, a teacher, an insurance agent, a real estate agent but loved most of all being a pastor for 35 years. He served as a mission builder in Benton, Illinois, Faith Lutheran then Zion Lutheran in LaMoille, Illinois, Calvary Lutheran in New Windsor, Illinois. He then went onto studying for chaplaincy at St. Luke’s Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. He then served Community Hospital systems in Fresno, California serving as Hospice Chaplain for 5 years. He has completed over 20 interims serving a variety of churches from California, Las Vegas and Illinois. He served as a Chaplin for the Civil Air Patrol an auxiliary of the US Airforce in Las Vegas, NV. In Illinois he served churches in Shelbyville, St. Paul ELCA Altamont, St James, Vandalia, St. Paul, Hillsboro, Wares Grove and Redeemer Centralia.
Don had an extraordinary ability to insert humor in most situations, especially when preaching his homily during services loved his Ole and Lena jokes. He loved his family and his church.
Don is survived by his wife and 5-Sons: Kendall (wife, Ina) Marlow of Conifer, Colorado; Kier (wife, Lisa) Klepzig of Newton, Georgia; Ben (wife, Amy) Klepzig of Lake Mills, Wisconsin; Dave (wife, Cedes) Klepzig of Zion, Illinois, and Michael (wife, Debbie) Fenelon of East Lansing, Michigan. 1-Daughter: Michelle (Chuck) Fenelon of Woodward, Iowa. Brother Dwight (wife, Katherine) Klepzig of Shumway, Illinois. Daughter-in-law Sandy Klepzig of Las Vegas.
12 Grandchildren, and 6 Great Grandchildren-several nieces and nephews.
