Obituary for Charles Franklin Marten
Mr. Charles Franklin Marten 74 years old of Tasmania, Australia, formally of Altamont, passed away peacefully at the Gibson Unit in Hobart, Australia on April 21, 2018.
Charles was born January 23, 1944, in the St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Illinois. He was the eldest son of the late Wilbert (W.J.) Marten and Viola Laue-Marten, raised on the family farm in Moccasin Township, Effingham County near Altamont.
Over Charles’s lifetime, as an Engineer, his career took him on many amazing adventures around the world. His life was blessed with his loving family and friends in the United States and Australia.
He will be deeply missed by his loving Wife, and best friend, of 24 years, Joan Marten of Tasmania Australia. His Son Kevin (wife, Cheri) Marten of Effingham, parents of Josh Marten of Cincinnati, Ohio and Abby (husband, Seth) Tolley of Indianapolis, Indiana.
His 4-Daughters Tracy Marten (partner, Nancy Campbell), Susan (husband, Cory) Harris, parents of Bailey Marten and Adrianna Harris all of Altamont, Illinois. Helene (husband, Julian) Shaddock, parents of Mia, Thomas and Blair, all of Tasmania, Australia. Julia Curtis (partner Steve Bailey), parents of Damian, Rebecca, Jessie, Amy and their families, all of Tasmania, Australia.
Brother Rick (wife, Doris) Marten of Smithville, Mississippi and Sister Carol Lee (husband, Jack) Mills, of Mansfield, Texas. The funeral was held April 26, 2018 in Tasmania, Australia.

A Champagne Celebration of Life will be held at home in Altamont at a later date. Charles will be laid to rest next to his parents atthe Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Shumway, Illinois.
