Charla was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, on March 6, 1944, the daughter of Charles and
Lillian Allen. As an infant Charla became a member of God’s family through the rite of
Holy Baptism and later as a teenager she pledged her faithfulness to her Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ through the rite of Confirmation at Trinity Lutheran Church in East St. Louis,
Illinois. Her life of loving, caring, sharing and helping the people in her life was a profound
testimony of her Christian faith.
She received her education at schools in East St. Louis, Belleville Junior College
and Concordia University Chicago. It was at Concordia where she met Garry Wolff,
a missionary teacher from the New Guinea Lutheran Mission. Garry and Charla were
married on December 14, 1968, at Unity Lutheran Church in East St. Louis. They
returned to Papua New Guinea where Charla was a full-time homemaker and
dedicated missionary wife.
Upon returning home to the United States in 1975 the family became members of
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont, Illinois where Charla taught Sunday School
for many years and was an active member of the Altar Guild, the Ladies Aid and
the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was employed by Pekin Insurance
Agency for a number of years in Effingham and Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Charla is survived by her husband of 56 years, Garry Wolff, daughters Amanda (Patrick) Densmore, Bronwyn (Glenn Hoshauer) Wolff, son Caleb (Stephanie) Wolff, grandchildren Laura (Rev. Parker) Asplin,
