Carl Edward Brauer was born April 10, 1934 at the old St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham, Illinois, to Harry and Helen Schutte Brauer.Carl graduated from Altamont Community High School with the Class of 1952 and continued his education receiving his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois. Carl was self employed involved with accounting, tax preparation and insurance. His previous employment had been auditing with the State of Illinois Department of Mental Health, production control with Essex Wire Corporation, Decatur, Illinois. "Bo" was also field auditor for Montgomery Ward & Company in stores located in several states as well store controller at Ward's stores in Munster, Indiana and Decatur, Illinois. Carl was a veteran of the United States Army receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1955. He served as Mayor of Altamont (1979-1999), was a member of the Independent Accounting Association of Illinois, the Altamont Chamber of Commerce, a Life Member of VFW Post 7676 serving as commander and the American Legion Post #520 both of Altamont. Memorials they may be directed to the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry, the School Back Pack FoodProgram, both of Altamont and or the Donor's Choice.
