Obituary for Bettie Arlene Harms
Bettie Arlene (Kennedy) Harms, 92, of Altamont, formerly of Palatine, IL, passed away peacefully at 1:15 pm Friday, December 7, 2018, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO with family by her side.
Bettie was born on February 18th, 1926, in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Leah and Harry Kennedy. Bettie and George Harms were united in marriage on January 12th, 1950 and enjoyed 37 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on December 8, 1988. George decided 30 years was too long away from Bettie and called his beautiful wife home.
Bettie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised a family full of love which was evident in her family’s many laughter-filled visits to see her. Bettie had a witty sense of humor even into her final days. Bettie made her family the best spaghetti and chocolate chip cookies they had ever tasted, mostly because of the extra sugar she added because she had quite the sweet tooth herself. Bettie was a devote Christian and enjoyed attending service at Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member.
She is survived by her children, son Robert Cover (wife Colleen) of Omaha, NE and their children Todd (wife Rachel), Mark (wife Kara), and Sara Meija (husband Jason); son David Dumpert (wife Michelle) of Seabeck, WA and their children Woodean Nickerson (husband Jeff),Josh (wife Megan), and Heather Patton (husband Chris); son George Harms (wife Jone) of San Jose, CA; daughter Pamela Siddens (husband Richard) of Altamont, IL and their children Scott (wife Katie), Chris (wife Janet), Tyler (wife Brooke), and Stephanie Bales (husband Jesse); son John Harms (partner Jewel) of Warrensville, NC and his son John; son Paul (wife Wendy) of Genoa, IL and their children Paul and Ryan. She also has twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Leah (O’Connell) Kennedy; husband, George Harms, Jr.; and two sisters, Gertrude and Cora Jean. Bettie will be dearly missed
