Audrey was born into the Christian family one of six siblings of Arnold and Olive Hammer. She began her long life on April 30th,1930 at Chenoa, Illinois. The family then moved to the Altamont area in the fall of 1930, after all the corn was shucked ! Audrey was raised and educated in the values of the Church and on the 5th day of June in 1949 she married William "Bill" Arthur Neu in the St. Paul “Blue Point” Lutheran Church, rural Altamont by Rev. Herbert Rose. William Neu preceded Audrey in death on Thursday August 13th of 2009.
Audrey spent her life in the local area as a farm wife and with her husband raised a family of five children. She was a member of the St. Paul “Blue Point” Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and taught Sunday school. She was also active in many community events.
Audrey is survived by her:3-Sons: Richard (wife, Angela) Neu Beecher City, Illinois.
John (wife, Karen) Neu Effingham, Illinois.
Fred (wife, Phyllis) Neu Effingham, Illinois
2-Daughters: Katherine (husband, Joe) Kyle Veedersburg, Indiana
Charlene (husband, Scott) Bales Salem, Illinois
2-Brothers: Howard (wife, Carolyn) Hammer Altamont, Illinois.
Norman (wife, Carolyn) Hammer Altamont, Illinois
2-Sisters: Mrs. Dale (Irma) Mellendorf Louisville, Illinois
Mrs. Ardon (Verda) Mellendorf Louisville, Illinois
21 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her:Husband: William Arthur Ernest Neu, Brother: Arlon “Ace” and his wife Elsie Hammer, Brother-in-law: Ardon Mellendorf ,Granddaughter: Krystal Dawn Neu
